About
Howdy – thanks for stopping by, and if you read my intro piece on the home page and found yourself wanting more, then here it is; the about Me.
I’m Seanzy, an Austin, Texas based visual artist. I’m endlessly fascinated by the values espoused by the storytellers of the past and what mysteries about life and the universe they tried to impart. For me, folklore is the collective values from a given culture distilled into clear characters with specific motivations. As devices these characters demonstrate to the listener the values of that culture, either positively or negatively. I can imagine a parent telling a child a good night story, or a group of travelers staying warm around a camp fire trying to motivate each other or have a laugh. And over time, these stories spread, were shared and passed on, had new ideas woven into them that stuck until a cultural ethos formed around them and shaped the world.
Today, my mission is to add a little bit more beauty back into the world by creating compelling images that are pleasing to look at and motivating to contemplate. How do you depict courage? Or loyalty? Kindness? Humility? Yes there is art for art’s sake, but art can motivate and inspire as well.
Ideally, my goal is to gain the confidence and faith of a dedicated group of collectors and dealers who appreciate and support art and the contemporary artists who are actively contributing to bring culture forward. I try to give each piece deliberate, focused attention as I imbue my life essence, my soul, into each work. Maybe its arrogant to want this, but I hope that people for generations will be inspired and perhaps choose better paths in their lives through interacting with the work I create in my brief time on earth.
For education, I obtained a BFA with a focus in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in 2010. During my time there I started an apprenticeship in American tattooing, pivoted to mural painting, graphic design and commercial illustration before pivoting to a more marketing based approach which bizarrely led me into the realm of personal financial consultation by way of investment real estate. My goal is to maintain a clean separation between my two professional lives.
When not making art, I am a full time financial advisor/planner currently working to earn the Certified Financial Planner mark. I also like to practice and teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, currently a purple belt, take my dog Ziggy on early morning walks, take luxurious naps in the afternoon, and make my beautiful wife smile and laugh (sometimes at my own expense).
